On an August night of 1968 two lovers isolated in a car in Signa, near Florence,
were killed by gunshots. In the following years seven similar murders,
all concerning isolated couples and all around Florence, were committed with the same gun,
the last one on September of 1985 in San Casciano.
The investigation went on until a few years ago, but the murderer, the so-called “Monster of Florence”, has never been found. The ridiculous judicial truth that gave us a conviction for Mario Vanni and Giancarlo Lotti is an insult to our intelligence, and nowadays nobody takes it seriously anymore. Above all universal criminology, which should’ve thrown itself headlong in the study of the underlying phenomenon, so unique and puzzling, but instead never took interest in it… because it never believe to it! No one among the subject-matter experts, either international or local, has ever taken the scenery of an unlikely town gang who murdered to sell femal sexual parts to a supposed cult seriously.
We italians are people capable of utter pinnacles, both toward the top and toward the bottom. In the case concerning the Monster of Florence’s murders we hit rock bottom. Who’s writing is ashamed of this. Perhaps even for a reason of proud, within my modest possibilities as a mere follower, I decided to engage myself in search for a historical truth able to overtake the embarrassing judicial truth.
After decades of useless if not deceptive investigations, the matter has by now become a sort of onion, where many layers of misleading material have accumulated one on top of the other, and this isn’t due to our judiciary only. This sour onion has to be peeled, layer after layer, in the hope of distinguishing at least the shade of the real murderer, little by little. It’s this blog’s goal, whose articles, from a future historical reconstruction perspective, have an ambition to do away with myths, falsehood, far-fetched hypotheses, and, why not, with some probable judicial mistakes too.
